slip form masonry
Tomas...from 1972 to 1975 I built a pre-fab log home over a slip-form stone
first floor. With only occasional help from my friends, it is an extremely
cost and labor efficient technique, moving the 2x8 leapfrog it could be
accomplished with as little as two sheets of plywood, occasionally brushed
with burnt cylinder oil to keep them 'clean'.
That said, I was often displeased with the resulting stone placement. If I
had at the time more information/experience with stone, I would have done it
differently. I sold the cabin in 1994 and it is still standing. It is on a
fault line in the southern Appalachians and it has felt some tremors, but no
real earthquakes so I can't provide any info there.
