How to paint letters cut in porous stone?
Fellow lettercarvers,
I usually cut letters in Belgian limestone (petit granite) and when
neccecary, painting the letters is an easy job: apply the paint freely
and after drying remove the excess with very fine sandpaper. However,
I recently cut a text in Portland; nice delicate roman letters. Since
this is a very porous stone, that easily absorbs the paint, it took me
a long time to paint the letters exact, whithin the lines. Are there
less time-consuming methods to paint letters in porous stone? And what
kind of paint do you use? And do I need to use a kind of primer (it is
for outdoor-use).
