How to paint letters cut in porous stone?
Michiel,
I often do letter carving in a soft and porous limestone--Texas (or
Cordova) creme, and on occasson have had to paint them. I find that the
proceedure you use on the Belgian Stone works just as well on the more
porous material also. Paint the letters and then finish sand the surface to
remove the excess. You might just want to test it out on a scrap piece of
the portland stone if you have some. I do use lithochrome paint which is
formulated for stone. I think the only altenative would be to use adhesive
backed sign makers vinal, or the sandblast resist (more expensive) to use
as a mask, and then airbrush the letters

Fellow lettercarvers,
Since this is a very porous stone, that easily absorbs the paint, it took
me a long time to paint the letters exact, whithin the lines.
