core drill bit
I like the wet paper towel idea and many of the others in previous
posts.
Nothing is bent, both the grinder and core bit are brand new.
I'll also try the template idea. Sounds like the bit "walking" across
the surface of the stone is normal, and just needs to be controlled
with a template.
A related topic came up recently on this list and people recommended
the core bit for quick drilling of clean holes, when compared to a
hammer drill which is harder on the person and more likely to chip the
stone. This was the reason I bought the core bit to avoid the hammer
drill issues.
