Artisti come stai? god I forgot my Italian...anyway..

I want to comment of what you said about working fast and the price of your
work.
My father paints very fast, the years of experience I guess and he has
encountered people asking for the price of a work and asking my father how
long did it take to paint and how much did he pay for the paint and
canvas...My father answer is always..." you are not buying potatoes, you are
buying my creativity, my art, the many years of discovering.."..........Some
people who are businessmen think art is like any other commodity and it is
not..art is a different animal.
Luckily we may get the price of stone, plus use of tools and materials, plus
our time and then some more...our ideas are worth something or not? an
interior designer charges for her/his ideas, for thinking about how to solve
the problem. Artists are beyond the " normal" realm, we create, we put our
feelings, ourselves in our work, we give those who see it ( hopefully) an
experience, a personal, unique experience and when they experiment our work
is when they consider to buy ( lets hope they are not buying because it goes
with the sofa...). Art doesn't have a price, only a base price for us to get
even on our expenses and then we must give it what it deserves: It is not
about size nor theme nor material..it is about US and ART

Some quotes

"The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it."
Henry David Thoreau

"Sex is like art. Most of it is pretty bad, and the good stuff is out of
your price range."
Scott Roeben

"What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of
nothing."
Oscar Wilde

Art prices are determined by the meeting of real or induced scarcity with
pure, irrational desire, and nothing is more manipulable than desire.
Robert Hughes

"Good art is not what it looks like, but what it does to us." ~ Roy Adzak

"Art is the Queen of all sciences communicating knowledge to all the
generations of the world." ~ Leonardo da Vinci
