Ice & water shield,etc.
Edie,
The basins my friend fixes in place are the type that rest on a
pedestal by thier own weight usually. The membrane adds a bit of safety and
holds them there in case they are bumped,by a passing deer on the way to the
freshly planted tomatoes say.In order to dismantle an assemblage held
together with this stuff 2 people need to really work at it as it takes a
set after afew days. You have to twist back and forth and then lift and wait
as the pieces slowly come apart.
As far as replacing pins,I don't think I'd trust it that far. It's more like
a mid point between gravity and pins as far as holding power.Unlike pins it
does have some give to it though.
If it's somthing you're interested in I can ask him what the stuff's called
and where besides our local lumber yard it might be found.
The ice and water shield I offered up as a barrier to be used between a
marble sculpture and a Cor-ten(steel) base as a way to avoid the rusted
steel staining the stone.I believe it is a type of butyl rubber and bitumen
membrane and as such is the grey/black you would expect a roofing product to
be.It only has adhesive on one side.
