Hi John,
I was at the National Gallery of Art here in DC recently. The sculpture
"Four Crowned Martyr Saints" (Quattro Santi Coronati), by Nanni di
Banco, and normally at the Museum of Orsanmichele, Florence, is there.
At least one, and I think two, of the figures have short beards. One on
the left has a longer one.
I can't send a link, but it you go to nga.gov, Current Exhibitions,
Monumental Sculpture of Renaissance Florence, Related Online Resources,
Exhibition Features, and step through to Fig 4 you will see what I
mean. Unfortunately its a small image. The sculpture itself is amazing.
