Alabaster staining
Daniel,
welcome to the list!
I've noticed a lot of stained stone showing up in stores that sell a lot of
third world gifts. A lot of alabaster looking spheres with unaturally
strong colors.
If I were staining alabaster I'd plan on soaking the finished stone for a
long time so the stain could soak deep into the stone. The stain would have
to be permanent and deep so it could not wash out.
I was in a rock shop in Washington state this summer and saw a lot of
tumbled stones that had to be stained. You might learn something from the
lapidary community.
Good luck,
George Graham
