I think you are right Gary. First you have to have the permission of
the landowner. After that it is a matter of degree of alteration. I
actually spent three summers while in college working for an
entomologist interested in insects in streams. What looks like simple
water over rocks to us is actually an ecosystem occupied by a vast
number or herbivorous and carnivorous insects. So there is a lot going
on in streams besides fish. That said, flash floods do more rearranging
than a rock hound ever could.
