Soapstone oiling test results
In response to JVC's post of 12/13/05, I did a heavy multiple application
of oil/turpentine/beeswax to some Brazilian Blue Soapstone. I believed the
oil actually penetrated into this stone based on previous experiences.
Well, the oiled test stone sat on a nice warm & dry workbench for a little
over a week. I had masked off about half the stone. Today I cut the stone in
half, across the masked area. To my surprise, I can not see any evidence of
darkening into the interior of the stone. The surface is very dark & beads
water. The cut edge is very light and does not bead water.
I stand humbly corrected regarding my previous posting that oil did soak
into this stone.
Hope all you rock folks have a wonderfull holiday season.
