Stone
I too have found construction sites to be an excellent source for
stone! I spent many weekends at this site:

getting stone for landscaping. The construction site was for a small
subdivision.
I also lucked into a huge pile of stone less than a kilometer from my
house. An excavation company was dumping earth there and then screening
for top soil. I got a hold of the property owner and he said take as
much as I want.

I took about 25 truck loads of small stones for stabilizing my shoreline
and about 10 truck loads for landscaping.
Eric P. , you're lucky I don't live closer. I've upgraded my stone
gathering vehicle to a 5 ton dump truck that has a 4 ton crane. I'd
help... clean you out ;). If anyone is in the Ottawa Ontario area and
has access to stone and wants to work out a deal let me know! Or if
you're a sculptor and just want a large stone or two moved I'll do that
for cost (the truck costs about $30/100km in gas ). This is the truck
with the crane placing a stone:
