Stone

When I used to forage with the appropriate Gov permits I soon realised that
it was far more expensive than getting it direct from the quarry, one very
serious 4 x 4, 1 ultra heavy duty trailer and all sorts of winches etc $AU
50,000+, then add the cost of the trip.
1000kg of stone per trip usually made up of fairly small lumps never
anything much over 300kg. Much of the stone turned out to be useless.
Now I buy a 22 Tonne semi trailer load direct from the quarry 3000+
kilometres away, the price includes my travel to the quarry and transporting
the stone to my studio around $AU1500 per Tonne. One semi load would be more
than all the stone that I'd collected in the bush, and many bits over
1000kgs! Less than half the price of "picking it up for free".
Of course my economics are a little crazy because even though I don't
collect stone anymore I still have a 4X4 etc!
One thing more following up on reports good stone in all sorts of places can
a fantastic way of discovering out of the way places.
