foraging
I am truly blessed to live where I do. Not just because it is one of the
most beautiful places with near perfect weather but I live on a mountain
that is loaded with serpentine. This stuff runs from very soft to very
hard and in colors red, brown and various shades of green. The other
cool part is I very seldom go foraging. I just wait for the rain and
wind to roll stones down onto the road and I pick it up. Once when we
had a big wild fire the bulldozers cutting firebreakes pushed some
really big bolders onto the side of the road. I knew it wouldn't be long
before some of the macho yohoos with their 4x4's would push them over
the side just to see them roll. I got a friend with a boom truck to
bring them to my house. Some day soon I'm going to carve them. Here's a
link to a piece I did. It's about 15 inches high. The pictures at the
bottom of the page are closer to the true color of the stone.
