Dear Michiel,

Nice link, I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of the sculpture, what really
interests me is the whole "restoration" question, easy when the artist is
alive, terrifying when they've moved on. By that I mean some artists can be
quite philosophical about wear and tear and see it as part of the organic
life of their work, some can be very upset that the owners never looked
after it properly in the first place so damage was compounded by neglect, my
guess is that Moore wouldn't mind too much about "natural" erosion, he'd be
far more worried about someone "restoring" it, ie making imaginary Henry
Moore decisions.

By the sound of it the original foundations were inadequate.

New foundations, a good clean, high pressure clean water, several coats of
Tenax Hydrex (6) or similar should do the trick. A regular wash every year
and another application of Hydrex. You could even put it in its own little
glass house to protect it for less than what they're saying it will cost.
