I understand the appeal of the idea of having your own truck with you in
Italy, but...

Consider the costs of fuel at today's prices.
The monstrous wear you'd put on the truck driving back with hundreds of lbs.
of stone in the back.
The possibility of an accident caused by the altered handling of the truck
with all that added weight.

Also
You'll probably need help moving the stones in Italy (I regularly lift and
carry 100lbs +, but nothing like 200 lbs, and not on rough ground).
Why not go there, find the stones, then hire a local guy with a truck?
Are you really going to do all the labor of lifting and moving the stones
yourself, then drive 1000 miles in an overweight truck?
The cost of shipping shouldn't be too bad. You can probably get the stuff
shipped by rail to a freight depot in Kent, on the UK side of the Chunnel, and
pick it up there.
Is there any tariff between EU countries? I'd be surprised if there was.
The paperwork should be minimal (though you still might need a broker, since
any forms in Italy need to be filled out in Italian).

I love projects like this. I wish I was going myself.
