A rare opportunity to study lettercarving with a master, Tom
Perkins will lead us through the methods & practice of designing a small
inscriptions and carving them into slate or stone. Through example and
demonstration, students will get a rare insight into the step-by step
process of this beautiful art. Subjects: design, transfer to stone,
tools, working methods & proper technique & practice, the qualities of
fine lettering and inscriptions. There will be Tom's excellent work to
draw inspiration from in the form of handouts and slides.
CHEERIO Cost for each workshop: $555 for instruction, meals, lodging.

BELGIUM
Bruges, Belgium: Sunday 16 July - Saturday 22 July 2006:
Brody Neuenschwander, an American calligrapher who lives in Bruges,
Belgium has arranged a week-long, residential, instructional program in
his hometown. In addition to being a delightful, restored medieval city,
Bruges has become an important center for calligraphy, letter-cutting
and the teaching of calligraphy. Participants will study with two of the
three instructors: four days with one instructor and two days with
another: Brody Neuenschwander - Art and language. Yves Leterme -
Calligraphy and gesture. Kristoffel Boudens - Letters in stone.
Accommodations and Costs: Students will be housed in the Novotel
Bruges, a modern hotel only ten minutes' walk from the classrooms.
Lunches will be in the exquisite 18th century L'Orangerie adjacent to
the classrooms. Three course dinners (wine included) will be served in
the hotel. The cost of the conference is 980 euros (about $1300 at
current exchange rates) - Single rooms are more.
