Mike, I use the dowel ( pin ) method, usually 1/4 inch diameter for the
very small pieces, but I do not epoxy the dowel into either the sculpture
or the base. I move the smaller pieces around often enough that I find it
much more convienent to be able to lift the sculpture off of the base for
the move.
