Hi,

Its not often that I disagree with JVC but the practice of keeping the two
parts of a small sculpture separate has two huge disadvantages, they are:-

1 It multiplies the chances that the sculpture will get damaged by many
many times over. Stone, being brittle, is likely to chip
around the edges. The new owners of the works rarely comprehend this.

2 The fact that the sculpture can move on the dowel axis means that it
may not always remain in the correct position and can scratch the
base as it moves.
