Thassos marble
Thassian marble is usually dolomitic marble, rather than the more
common calcite marble. As such, it is noticably harder. It also will
maintain a high finish longer outdoors because it is less readily
dissolved by water. One thing to beware of, however, is that this type
of marble is slightly more likely to have small voids inside. It can be
excellent for carving and the Romans imported it from Thasos for that
reason.
