What is art?
I happen to think that something is art if it makes me see the world, or
look at the world, in a different way.
I maintained that the gates by Christo in Central Park were in fact art
because they got us to look at the park and it's structures in a new way, just as
a photo or painting might. Some of my artist friends here in NY disagreed.
But then, they're perfectionists (who don't sell any work, by the way).
It finally boiled down to the fact that the gates were his weakest work
ever....
Oversized images of people make me look at other people and myself
differently, change the way i feel about my own presence in the world. Or at least in
the gallery where I see it.
