Quoted text begins.I believe great art is determined by its ability to speak to or move
the masses not its ability to say the same thing to each and every
person who views it.
End of quote.

Good Norman,

I think you are right there, But it might be that great art just has to touch someone. When someone has responded to something I have done I feel that at least my effort was worth the time I put into it.

I had always thought that certain pieces of sculpture would be forever appriciated, then someone takes a hammer to them, whether that be the Pieta or the Urinal.

I am probably unable to understand the bushman art. I would enjoy watching him create though.
He in turn might not agree on what is great, but would understand the process and the work that goes into a piece.

I think we make art to speak to our own culture, our friends and loved ones. Sometimes it is done in responce to our culture such as Duchamp. What I do not understand is that Duchamp made a good point over half a century ago and other artists see fit to try and say the same thing again and again. Enough already!

Another artist I personal like is Andy Goldsworthy. I call it sculpture and I think it is great. He takes what Duchamp was saying and pushes the argument further. Mr. Mueck work does not touch my soul, nor advance a diologe on forme. It is fun. Perhaps that's enough for some but it does not inspire me.

Great work comes from great people, who live great lives, who push themselves relentlessly.

buono lavoro tutti
