Not necessarily but then do all 'educated' westerners see the greatness
of the Mona Lisa (I for one was underwhelmed when I first saw it and it
was only after studying it some that I understood what it was that made
it so unusual. I still can't get to the point where it is on my list of
top 100 works though). The fact of it is, art is not something which
can be graded in the same way as a mathematics quiz. There is no single
formula which makes a certain work right or wrong or one great and
another junk. If it were that easy there would be nothing intriguing
about it (at least for me). With Mueck's work, I think it is safe to
say the media isn't one which particularly excites us stone junkies, but
it is interesting and what I have seen does make some statements about
our society and how we view eachother and ourselves. The real question
... whether the Art is in the process or in the product? Perhaps 'art'
is what can happen when someone creates something or when another views
it, rather than being the product of some artist's effort. Its
something I think about anyway.
