Hi all,

I am one of those who don't mind other media because I sort of feel that not
many of the Top 10 stone sculptors may crack it for Top 10 artists.

The other thing that I noticed as I tried to think of my Top 10 was that I
would have written a different set for each of the last 4 decades of my own
life, the 60's would have had me listing the brand new arts of the time and
believing that those artists would really stand the test of time, many have
but strangely time (the outside world view) has changed their order in the
list, Rauschenberg was one of my favourites, Warhol from my perspective was
interesting enough but nothing to get really excited about, I still hold
that view, but look what time has done?

What worries me the most as I look back is the ease that historians and
following generations ignore the truth and massage it to back their views of
the present.

So after much deliberation I decided to look at the book shelves in my
office as a guide to how I thought over the years and list only the
sculptors who would still rate a mention from me. They are not listed from
Top to bottom but according to when I bought the book, oldest books first.
Robert Rauschenberg ( Whitechapel Gallery catalogue 1964) David Smith,
Picasso, Judd, Serra, Duchamp, Matisse, Henry Moore, Giacometti, Jean
Tinguely, Calder, Caro, Rodin, Medardo Rosso, Michelangelo, Bernini.

Which books (monographs) do I look at the most Bernini, Michelangelo,
Giacometti, Rosso & Matisse.

Best wishes to all Clive
