Top Ten - Christoph Spath
I also like the work of Christoph Spath. I combine steel, aluminum, wood,
and plastic with stone - usually in layers or stacks - and I've considered
using plate glass, or plexiglass, and also intalling a light source in some of
the empty spaces. I did wrap some xmas lights around some of my work this
past holiday season. (just trying to keep the 'x' in xmas). It was deliberately
silly, and a lot of fun, to put decorations on heavy granite and limestone
assemblages.
I decided not to use light yet, because it reminds me too much of the
illuminated fake grottos I used to see in movie theaters, and still see in the
front yards of my neighbors (usually with a statue of a saint).
I stopped short of using glass because I don't want to cut grind or
otherwise machine the surface of my stones to fit flush with the glass. All of this
may be in the future for me. I have a number of ideas that are contingent on
sales of some of my work.
Until then the policy here is "don't grind my stones!".
