Air Compressors!
After destroying 2 in 2 years I think I'm getting smarter, the first one was
good very expensive and lasted for about 10 years, and as the Australian
manufacturer had gone out of business just about impossible to repair. The
second one, so the sales people told me, had the same capacity etc etc, half
the price and so on, all sort of things went wrong with it shattering valves
and the like, I could see once the head had been taken off that it was
CHEAP. I imagine the story can be much the same in the US, cheap Chinese
imports flooding the market. The next one, Australian again, slow revs,
expensive but has a FIVE YEAR GUARANTEE , this I argued with myself may mean
that I'll never have to buy one again given my recent record!!!
When discussing my needs with the salesperson he suggested that we link the
cylinders from the last destroyed machine to the new one so we now have
double the air reservoir.
The other thing that I did quite some years ago was to install the
compressor outside the studio thus eliminating the chance that it would
catch all the dust but I don't know how this will go in your climate.
As I've said many time before I buy cheap air and electric hand tools and
accept that they'll give up, the expensive do too.
But invest in the best compressor, even slightly larger than you think you
need.
You get what you pay for, my guess is that if the US made compressor is
anything like other traditional US products, it may heavier than you think
it needs to be but it will be very well made, simple and very reliable. As
long as you service it as instructed and it comes with a great guarantee
you've got to be in front.
Good luck Clive
