not doing the work yourself
Hi all,
One of our most famous painters, Rembrandt, was a business man first and
foremost. He was one of the first to start ' workshops' where apprentises (
or their families) paid him to be there, they painted in the style taught
them ( Rembrandt's own) and it is believed Rembrandt then signed some ( most
? all ? ) of those paintings.....when traveling in Sweden it was disturbing
to find his fabulous works in museums with little notes next to them stating
the controversy.....his or not his....we'll never know.
Are there little notes on Noguchi's works stating he may not have done the
work himself.....
As for the wife being a more accomplished artist .....Rodin.....Some believe
the more refined works attributed to him were actually done by his wife.
When checking out a collection of his works in Tulsa even I thought the
pieces looked as though 2 different artists were represented....
While I have worked with another carver for 6 yrs now he has NEVER put a
chisel on any of my pieces.....talk, point out areas of concern, critique,
drawing on them, even getting into heated discussions of 'right and wrong'
but never carve on them. As for having a spouse or SO in your workspace
..... for the truly brave..... since my husband's nickname is Butterfingers
.... he usually just waves from the road.....
When I was into the graphic arts is was horrible what could and would happen
to your project once the printer got hold of it......time and again I would
remove my name from the project after awful changes were made by the
printers....one project was for a car show....imagine my horror when the
items printed came back featuring my 1955 chevy with the grill of a 58 dodge
on it......
