Surfacing granite with flame
There's a fellow who build seawalls locally who uses a rosebud torch on a
regular oxy/acetylene rig to closely fit the granite blocks.Basicly he just
heats the stone with the torch and it spalls off. It's rather time consuming
to remove large quantities or stone as the pieces that break of are usually
no more than 3/8 thick.I've seen it used to "Flame finish" stone steps so
that they are less likely to send you butt over teakettle this sime of year.
The downside is that the flame seems to caseharden the stone and it's very
hard to cut and near impossible to polish afterward.
Like anything else there's a learning curve involved.
