Surfacing granite with flame
Quoted text begins. There's a fellow who build seawalls locally who uses a rosebud torch on a
regular oxy/acetylene rig to closely fit the granite blocks.Basicly he just
heats the stone with the torch and it spalls off.
End of quote.
those spalls FLY off and they're HOT.
wear safety glasses, gloves, a long-sleeve shirt.
attaching a wire mesh "bib" to the torch is a good idea.
this is solely a surfacing technique, trying to get too much,
letting the torch (over)heat one area of the stone, can
compromise it's integrity, cause it to fracture.
this I know.
Quoted text begins.Like anything else there's a learning curve involved.
Bob
End of quote.
