Subject: New stonemasonry training centre for NSW

Hi - My name is Ian Knight. I've been a banker/fixer mason since
1985, mostly in London but the last four years in Sydney, Australia.
I really want to get into teaching my trade, and have done a year at
nightschool to get my Assessment and Workplace Training Certificate III,
onlyto find out that there is only one Stonemasonry course running in NSW
andthey are ok for instructors.

The only way out is to start my own training centre and courses up to run
alongside the existing course at Miller Institute of TAFE. I foresee
intensive medium length banker work courses (such as the six-month full-time
course I attended in 1985 at the Building Crafts Training School in London)
and shorter courses to cover a range of topics on demand, such as setting
out, replacement carving, lettering, block splitting, tool sharpening and
forging etc. I used to attend weekend courses in these subjects at The Orton
Trust in Northamptonshire, and found them both instructive and inspiring.

Consequently I need advice on setting up a Recognised Training Organisation
in NSW, as well as on equipment, facilities, OH&S, syllabus needs, trainer
qualification etc etc.

Eventually I want to hit both Government and Industry with a package that
they may want to help finance.

What would you want to see in a stone training centre?
