art & numbers
I understand what Kent is saying. Even the just do it guys are at the least
doing a more subconscious version of calculating as they work. Carving
gargoyles for a building are still done within guidelines for dimensions,
before that really fun part of just doing it! And I think it depends how
visual of a person you are, whether you can carve without a drawn out plan.
And also if you have that "perfectionist" gene - you need that plan to live
up to!
I dare say I happily go back and forth between the two. I think I used to
struggle between them, thinking I had to be one or the other. Now I realize
they both have there place for me, and not just in carving.
