Art and numbers
That courthouse is indeed a thing of beauty! And yes I would consider
it a product of art and numbers combined, each has its place. Before
anyone could set a single number on a page someone had an idea. This
idea could have begun based either on a vision/dream of a structure of
that design or it could have been an equation or pattern of equations
which suggested this or any particular design. In the case of the
courthouse, I suspect the idea came visually or conceptually and someone
first made sketches before any blueprint was done. Of course the
concept could have developed from the lot size, elevation and
orientation so my conclusion could be totally wrong. It is my theory
that it is a matter of individual brain function. Some folks naturally
function stronger through the number processing side of the brain and
therefore naturally think in terms of numbers or equations to define
their thoughts while others think from the part which deals in images or
sound or whatever. For me the numbers are not first. It is part of
what is individual in each of us. Well that's my theory anyway and I'm
stickin to it :P
