Meeting sculptors,actors,highwaymen,and other disreputable characters
As you well know, artists, craftsmen, etc are a decidedly odd lot. Some won't
bother to give you the time of day and others will go out of thier way to
give you whatever they can. I say drive on Norm, don't let the unmannerly few
keep you from getting out there and making new friends.
I have never thought that asking anyone was gauche, it's just good
manners. What does irritate me is when someone drops by uninvited, without
prior notice and completely interrupts your day(usually just when you've
finally found yourself "In the zone"). Those sort truely do ruin your day and
steal from you time you can never get back. Better to write or at least call
first, and I don't mean from the car on the way over.
Once you do hook up and start to share info with like minds you'll be
kicking yourself for not doing it sooner. Perhaps this forum might be a good
place to find leads. Where do you call home? How far are you willing to
travel?
Bob
PS-Directors and other personel from art centers, museums and galleries are a
good place to gather info on who treats visitors with the proper respect and
can also many times provide an intro that will open afew doors. I know
they've pushed a few interesting people to my door.
