The Zone
I know when I'm in the zone when I have no idea what I'm doing, but I
know exactly what I need to do !
I'm 'zoned in' when the short-strokes and details are known, but not
thought of. When you are strictly working with the big picture and
all of the details are sub-consously bleed out of your actions.
We're always in the zone with some things. For instance when we
swing a hammer, there are trillions of details, that if we tried to
concously to control or understand which muscles to contract, we would
just miss the target ( and break a bone ). As you get good in the
short stokes you are able to transend the details and work with
higher-abstract models which are more efficient.
I'm not sure what gets me in the zone. Something about a vision or
passion being integrated with my actions. Without some bigger
picture to work with, I end up worrying about the details.
Thanks for the food for thought !
