The Zone
The "zone" to me is when I am no longer unsure about what I'm doing . The
carving is no longer work. It becomes effortless and fast. The image in my
head has become clear and fits the stone I'm working on.
The main reason for having a studio with all the tools and stones within
reach is so I can get into the zone more easily, and stay there longer!
I first recognized the "zone", when playing in a highschool band. It
happened when everyone was playing the music right, together, and with great
feeling. We all knew something special had happened when the piece was over.
The novel mentioned was "The Crystal Singer" by Judith Tarr? I read the set
of three, and remember that it was a fun easy read. Some of the plot
involved the problems that crystal cutters became obsessive and compulsive
about their need to find and collect the crystals.
Sounds a little familiar.
