Respirators and dangerous rocks.......
You have to use a dust mask whenever you are working with an unknown stone.
I'd add any kind of granite and sandstone to the list of hazardous stones
that require a dust mask. Any stone that has quartz in it, can cause
silicosis.
The good news is that good masks are easily available. I use a standard mine
safety dust mask that is common in the monument industry. I've been using
these kinds of masks for 25 years and have no lung problems. I'll go knock
on some wood for continued good luck now!
