Verging on Heresy
Seems to me if it is your own carving you could do what you like with it
- copy it to your heart's content! However, do note that many of the
'rubbers' used for making the molds will damage finishes on the softer
stones - so be prepared to refinish the piece at the very least. Some
artists' I have known have had castings made from their stone work only
to have the original broken in the process. Of course, if you are doing
it all yourself that won't be too much of a worry. I believe the
process would be a lot gentler for poured stone than for bronze, since
you don't have that excessive heat of molten metal to contend with, the
mold making process ends up being simpler.
