Luciano Fabro
PS
It must be more difficult in Italy than in other places in
the world to escape some sort of intellectual engagement
with stone carving's artistic heritage. I might be able
to pull it off, and others as well, but it must be more
difficult to practice ignorance there than as I do at
home. But I do also wonder if an awareness of just how
far one's voice might carry, not just in space but also
time, isn't what gives some artists a broader voice. How
frightening to envision a contemporary David, faced off
against THE David, as if no time had passed and nothing
had happened!
