End of quote.
You may be right VT. Looking at things that sculptors have made it
seems to me that there is a very large number of torsos. Also vast
numbers of religious figures, heads of states, soldiers, workers, and
untold numbers of elegant curvy abstracts. Presumably these have been
caused to be made by patrons, interested groups, families, and
sculptors of their own free will. But it seems to me that some things
have never been done. After thousands of years and literally millions
of examples I don't think anyone has ever made a perfect marble
sculpture of a man being tortured, a child being raped, or any of the
many awful things people have inflicted on each other. One might say
art has to be paid for, and no one wants to pay for this. But has
there really in all this long time been no patron, interest group,
family, or sculptor of his own free will been moved to do this?
