Agateer
"Diamonds are expensive because they are plentiful and ugly, Agates are cheap because they are rare and beautiful." Robert Proctor.
A nonsense statement till you really think about it.
Have just started reading Charles Pellegrino's "Ghosts of Vesuvius',
he is taking us back in large jumps through time to the formation of the universe. At about 4 billion years back , he discusses carbon and diamonds. Carbon could accumulate in only two forms, one being deep in the earth as diamonds and he states that they are one of the most common of gemstones. Trouble is they only came to the surface from truly cataclysmic events.
With agates.. I guess it would be difficult to build an industry around something that is really rare, and not uniform in character.
But, that is what an artist does , isn't it ?
