Polishing Portoro Marble
Hello Justin,
I carved and polished a piece of Portoro last year. I agree, this was one
of the most challenging stones I have carved. I agree with George's advice
of using rubbing stones. I would caution against using any acids with this
stone ( either oxalic or hydrochloric). I used some to remove some tool
marks and it left a light cloudy pattern on a part of the sculpture. Since
then I have also learned that Portoro is also sensitive to acid rain if
placed outside. Once you get there you will find the Portoro takes a
beautiful polish.
I would enjoy seeing you piece if you want to email it to me. Once I have
your email, I'll be happy to send you back a photo of mine.
Regards,
John Halter
