Subject: The loss of a vibrant stone sculptor, Horace Farlowe

Hello all,

Horace Farlowe
February 26, 1933 - April 8, 2006

Horace was a stone sculptor originally from North Carolina but working in Georgia since 1979. Through his work and later his leadership, the stonecarving studio in the Sculpture Department at the University of Georgia became nationally recognized as center for learning about the art of stone sculpture. And although he retired - Professor Emeritus -in 2000, he allowed himself to be talked into teaching stone sculpture a couple more semesters for the University in the few years following.

Some of you may have known him, others I am sure did not. But the art world and particularly the world of stonecarving lost a dynamic artist and a caring teacher last week when Horace passed away.
I knew him for many years, and even had the pleasure of working beside him one Summer in Italy, where it was an amazing joy just to watch him work.

I am honored to say he was my friend.

His work can be seen on his website:
