Subject: Angkor

Viewing a film about the temple of Angkor, it spoke of the population and the agriculture complex that supported it, but also talked of the waterways leading to this complex and had some fleeting shots of the stream beds. These are flowing over what the commentator described as phallic symbols, miles he said of the water coming in contact with the symbols that brought ...what ? fertility ? Power? Prosperity ?

The temple complex that was presented was stunning, as in hit between the eyes with a hammer. I am aghast that such talent, such dedication, such beauty has been ....just left there. Just bloomed, like a huge fragrant flower, and then withered to just a stalk of what it once was.

I guess all our cities will one day be thus, as we all will ourselves sooner than we think.

Has anyone here been to Angkor, or has done research on these monuments?

It has been so very quiet here on the Stone List , I miss all of your ready wit and diverse views...please take a minute to pen a few lines of thought.
