heat and wax (and Saskatchewan)
Robin,
He's referring to heating up soapstone (soaking a small piece in hot water
first) or with a torch and rubbing beeswax onto it, taking off the excess
and buffing with a soft cloth, or even felt bobs on a dremel. It darkens and
shines up soapstone beautifully but will only last long-term indoors. I used
it on the gravestone shown on my website that has a hummingbird on it. What
kind of polishing compound do you use?
by the way, I've joined the Saskatchewan Craft Council and they've just
started a new online Fine Craft Guide for Saskatchewan crafts people. You
can find me me on it with a link to my own web page, as well as many other
talented Saskatchewanians!
