Newbie introduction
Hello all!
After a long time of quiet lurking I have finally decided to join.
My name is Jon-Pat Myers and I am a sculptor from South Africa and currently
live and work in the Galillee ,Israel.
My primary medium is marble but have recently started working quite a bit in
basalt. I have recently set up my workshop and been busy the last year or so
trying to simply improve my limited range of techniques and have managed to
produce a fairly large body of work in a relatively short time.
I am completely unconnected to the world of sculpture except for one or two
people that I have met at symposia and remain in contact with and so it is
refreshing for me to be able to "sit in" on the various conversations that
take place here.
Now that I have taken the plunge and finally joined I would like to
apologize in advance for all the stupid questions I am sure to ask due to
the fact that I am autodidactic and dont have the benefit of a formal
education. My skills have been collected on building sites and in factories
and from basically working on the stone, so it is not surprising that I may
have missed some of the very fundimentals that an art student would have
been exposed to in the very first years of training. I hope however to
perhaps fill in some of the blanks here and sincerely wish that I will be
able to benefit from the members who undoubtably are more experienced than
myself.
I am fotunate in that I have a wife who is familiar with the nuts and bolts
of the computer and has set up what is very much a pilot website for me that
is still under construction complete with proportianately distorted pictures
and so on! Please feel free to browse and leave a comment if you wish. I
think that the work is able to say more than I possibly could.
I eat, sleep, dream, and breathe sculpture. It is part of my very core and
I'm sure I am not the only one who feels this way so I look forward to
continue with my lurking and perhaps who knows? I may be able to and hope to
be able to make a contribution as well.
Thank you
Jon-Pat Myers
