turp and linseed oill, and hot waxing
Hi Robin,
Joanne Duby was in fact the one that shared this finishing technique with
me. You do not heat the oil, or the turpentine (paint thinner). Just mix
50 percent of each together, store in a closed container out of sunlight -
it will last indefinitely.
You need to be very careful when applying it to make sure it dries before
you buff otherwise it will turn into a sticky mess. Applying a little at a
time until it soaks in, using more depending on the rate of absorption and
then buffing very thoroughly will indeed elevate the gloss level on the
stone.
I will note that both Joanne and I ran into some greenish black serpentine
that originated out of Virginia that we were never able to get a sheen on,
even using this method. But it did enhance the color.
