Dan,
welcome to the list.
I've used wood chisels on soapstone and alabaster when I needed to shave and
slice to get to a finished surface. Never for any major stock removal. The
steel is too brittle to stand up to hammering. I use my old worn out
carpenters chisels for gentle alabaster carving.
I hope to see a picture of baby wearing a dust mask on your website, along
with the rest of your fine work.
