Introducing myself: Ad Sach (Singh)
Hi.
I am a computer professional and amateur stone carver (amateur: one who does it for love.) My move to Boston this January, after 3 years in a temporary job, somehow rekindled my desire to artistically carve stone. Last month I drove to Vermont and selected four 80-150lb blocks of Marble(Royal Danby, West Rutland and Neshobee). I have started work on one and have plans for a second.
My previous stone work has been:
1- Sandstone Flame and Chalice (one simple piercing, similar to the cover of Milt Liebson's Direct Stone Sculpture at http://www.schifferbooks.com/newschiffer/images/book_images/cover_detail/0887403050.jpg )
2- Mayan style soapstone bird (relief carving)
3-'Found' stone Clown Loach (Fish have no undercutting) as in http://www.malawicichlidhomepage.com/other/clown_94.jpg
Today, I find myself wanting to do much more detailed and pierced shapes (e.g. multiple arms in sinuous postures.) I will post questions about that in a separate post.
I don't have carving photos online, but I do have a web page with several sculpture photographs I took in Florence a few years ago at http://www.blueturban.com/travel/italy_1999/italy_1999.html
