VA soapstone
Hi Wendy,
I'm new to this list, live in Virginia, and would recommend you visit the
Alberene Soapstone Company in Schuyler while you're here. Everyone there is
very helpful and informative. Soapstone, as you may already know, varies in
hardness. They will show you which pieces are very hard and which are
easier to carve. If you want soapstone without the hard spots, they'll help
you identify those pieces. They have a resident stone carver there who does
wonderful work and he's delightful to talk with. I bought a 180lb piece
that was very nice to work with.
Here's their website: http://www.alberenesoapstone.com
I hope you enjoy your visit to Virginia ... you'll love the Blue Ridge
Mountains this time of year!
