Subject: to guard or not to guard?

Calvin - besides the graphic injury description from Simon and the mode of
injury (unguarded spinning blade cuts into flesh) there is something else
to consider: high speed shrapnel from a disintegrating blade spinning at
many thousands RPM. This topic was well covered a while back (check
archives) and it immediately caused me to A) put the guards back on my
4.5", 8", and 12" diamond bladed angle grinders, and B) wear a full face
shield in addition to the safety glasses I had been using (sometimes things
manage to get past a full face shield). In my case, I have recently been
priced out of health insurance here in the U.S. (over $1k per month for
self employed mid 40's male in good health) so even a minor injury treated
at a hospital is coming directly out of my pocket...

My vote would be to always use a blade guard unless there's a darn good
reason to temporarily remove it for deeper cuts or something.

My 2 cents, Pete Bracken

Quoted text begins.my question is whether this is foolish behavior and that sooner or
later the thing will bite me
The short answer: Yes.
The long answer: Use a risk management process
