Near antique sharpening wheel
In the interest of maintaining quiet in my backyard carving gazebo by reducing the use of power tools, I acquired a near antique sharpening wheel. The 2ft wheel seems to have a good face, has a reasonable amount of runout and is powered by a single foot treadle. When I dry sharpened a chisel it seems to take only about 2.5 times as long as my electric bench grinder, so this would be fine to touch up the points on my points while carving.
My question is: Should I use this stone dry? with water? with oil?
A photo of the wheel is at http://www.blueturban.com/temp/sharpening_wheel.jpg
